Chang's design stands out for its use of natural colors, with off-white as the base color, and pink and blue characterizing different living rooms. The varied ornament details instill a sense of exploration and originality, while the overall tone exudes a sense of vastness and strength. The design is a tribute to the local Mongolian culture, rendering the space both intimate and high-quality.
The Brother Fortune Villa Center is realized through the abstraction and simplification of European decorative lines. The vertical walls and simple entrance lines are rigid and strong, outlining the tall skeleton of the building, reminiscent of the re-emergence of the empire's strength and glory. The use of materials such as rice yellow stone, limestone, shells, copper, and leather add to the rich and heavy texture of the space.
The design project, which commenced in August 2016 and was completed in December 2017, is located in Baotou, Inner Mongolia, China. Baotou is an important hub connecting North China and Northwest China, and also a communication hub between the nomadic culture of the northern grasslands and the farming culture of the Central Plains. The design of the project highlights the sense of breadth that complements the location of the project.
Chang faced several challenges during the initial stage of the project. Adjustments were made to increase the sense of momentum, changing the two-story empty stairs into three-story empty stairs, and expanding one axis around the axis of the opening of the ring stairs. The reception area and water scenic area were integrated into the sand table area, making the space transparent and open, and the function coherent.
The Brother Fortune Villa Center was awarded the Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019. The Golden A' Design Award is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom. They are venerated products and bright ideas that advance art, science, design, and technology, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
